SobekPH SobekPH SobekPH is an iPhone application designed to interact with the remarkable UF Digital Collections. Though the images and materials are already available on the web with significantly more information and detail than is feasible for the constraints of a mobile platform, we believe that these collections are beautiful in their own right, simply to view and interact with. To that end, and working in concert with Digital Library Center staff, we've created SobekPH. It is now available from the app store.
SobekPH has gone niche! Because sometimes it's more interesting to look at a smaller slice of a bigger picture, SobekPH now has two more specifically targeted versions of itself. We're happy to announce SobekPH UF Archives and SobekPH Baldwin. Don't worry though, if you have the original version of SobekPH, you already have the ability to view these collections, so you're not being left out, these are just for those of us who might like things a little more narrowly focused.
As another note, the original version of SobekPH has undergone some minor upgrades, and these changes have been included in the new targeted versions. Facebook's iPhone FBConnect API changed recently, so we've updated the application to take that into account. For anyone who might have tried to publish to Facebook and gotten an error, or had some unexpected behavior, we would like to offer our apologies, as this has been taken care of now. We've also extended our timeout duration, to more effectively handle lower bandwidth or 3G-only connections.

UFDC is the home of the UF Digital Collections where unique digitized materials are made available online for free, open access. SobekPH has been built atop this powerful system, thanks in no small part to their well-designed architecture.
The UF Digital Collections already have a home on the web, but we couldn't think of a reason why they shouldn't have a place in your pocket as well. Though UFDC is highly accessible, we decided that a mobile platform would be a great way to bring even more exposure to these collections.
Sobek is an Egyptian crocodile god. These being the UF Digital Collections, we think the connection is probably obvious. Go Gators!
